A satisfying whole wheat sweet
Yield: Makes one loaf
Combine whole wheat flour, baking powder and salt in bowl; mix well and reserve. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla and milk; mix until smooth. Add dry ingredients, 1/4 a cup at a time, blending well after each addition. Fold in chopped nuts. Spoon into greased loaf pan (9 x 5 x 3- inch). Bake in moderate oven (350 F.) until done, 60-70 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes; loosen edges and remove bread from pan. Finish cooling on wire rack.
